As a scientific university, NIH has stable core tasks: studies, research and dissemination. At NIH we study organized sports, physical education, dance, outdoor activities, exercise and training in all forms. We are suitable for the perspective of science, social sciences, humanities and medicine. The study portfolio is extensive with five bachelor courses, four year studies and four master programs.

The research supports NIH's study program that will meet the community's needs for competence before the field. Study program educates for work before sports, schoolwork, health care, public administration, private and voluntary sector, defense and higher education and research. NIH is also responsible for the dissemination of relevant knowledge to society.

The education is of high international quality and gives the students competence that is relevant for society and stimulates personal development. The requirements for admission to first year are a university admission certification or approved practical experience together with passing a physical examination.

The school’s 3-year PhD programme is a continuation from a Masters degree in sport science. Other relevant Master studies can in some cases be approved as a basis for admission to the programme.

Norwegian School of Sport Sciences has a goal of increasing its offer to international students. Many students at the school choose to undertake part of their education in institutions outside Norway.
