Nipissing University is located in North Bay, on a wooded escarpment overlooking the shores of Lake Nipissing. The university is rooted in a century-old teachers’ college; true to those roots, roughly a third of Nipissing’s students are in the Schulich School of Education.

Overview

Nipissing University is a primarily undergraduate institution dedicated to providing a personalized and exceptional student experience in which every student has a chance to learn, grow and chart a path to a successful future. Undergraduate students have opportunities to participate in original research and engage in a wide range of enriching co-curricular activities.

Nipissing has a reputation for innovation. Its renowned Schulich School of Education, the first in Ontario to introduce laptops into the curriculum, offers students the option of practice-teaching in international settings such as Kenya, Cameroon, China, Italy and the U.K.

Nipissing’s campus boasts hiking and snowshoeing trails, cross-country skiing—even a waterfall. The Harris Learning Library features spacious group-study rooms. The athletic facilities have basketball and volleyball courts, a fitness centre and lab space for researchers in the physical health and education program.

Residence rooms are all singles, with access to common areas for socializing.

Nipissing offers master-level graduate programs in education, history, kinesiology, mathematics and environmental science/environmental studies, and a PhD in Education with a focus on educational sustainability.

Researchers at Nipissing focus significant activity on environmental, cultural, societal and educational issues specific to Northeastern Ontario. Nipissing is dedicated to nurturing and supporting scholarship and research.
