Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment, New Zealand, University of Canterbury (UC) is a coeducational higher education institution. This higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment. UC also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, sport facilities and/or activities, financial aids and/or scholarships, study abroad and exchange programs, as well as administrative services.
Today, Canterbury graduates go on to high-calibre jobs, are accepted into prestigious university programmes and secure research positions around the world. The University is located in attractively landscaped grounds in the suburb of Ilam, ten minutes drive from the city centre and an international airport. UC offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in some 70 subjects, from accountancy to zoology. It has a number of specialist research centres and operates five major field stations at Kaikoura, Mt John (University Observatory), Cass, Westport and Harihari. Locally, eight halls of residence and accommodation options provide board for up to 2000 students.
